Visitors love interaction, especially a personable approach at gaining their attention and spiking their interests. Increasing the overall readership of your blog revolves primarily around content, accessibility and presentation. In an attempt to gain return readers and possibly subscribers, I present the newest version of Comment Relish: Version 2.0!.

Comment relish is a Wordpress plugin developed to send an e-mail message to users who comment on your website who have never commented before. The message dispatched to the user is defined within the plugin’s preferences. Numerous tags have been integrated to allow for information to be included in the message easily (I.E.: timestamp, author name, comment, ETC.). More thoroughly, it allows you to send out a genuine thank-you style / relishing message that informs your readers of what else is going on. However, this could be taken as (comment spam) unwanted solicitation, so make sure you write your messages clearly and not just about you and your feeds.

The newest release includes some obvious improvements over the previously neglected version uno and some major upgrades courtesy of C. Bavota from bavotasan.com. If you are currently using comment-relish and have not upgraded to Wordpress 2.7 because of its hectic and horrible reaction to the new code, have no worries – you can now! However, if you are running Wordpress 2.7 and you are upset that it was sending duplicate comments, endless comments to every commentor, or just flat-out broken – we fixed that too!

Download the plugin here.

Installation

 1. Download plug-in from link above
2. Extract compressed archive wpcomment-relish.zip to desired folder on your local computer.
3. Upload wpcomment-relish/ to your wp-content/plugins/ directory on your web server.
4. Activate plug-in via administrative panel of Wordpress
5. Configure preferences on Plugins->Comment-Relish preferences page
6. Enjoy!

Please comment on this article if you have any questions, conflicts or have ideas!

As individuals devote their lives and time developing applications and scripts to spam comments on Wordpress blogs, we have found a method for fighting back. Suprisingly, Wordpress does not incorporate a useful method for banning comment entries by IP, username or email address. However, good behind-the-scenes buddy Shane has developed a plugin to perform these actions easily.

Introducing, Bannage, a plugin for Wordpress that allows the administrator of a wordpress powered site to ban comments via usernames, email address, ip address or URI. If you have fallen victim to spam comment entries and such plugins as Akismet are not getting 100% of it. You can attempt to prevent spam using Bannage!

Features

Ban comments by:

URI

Username

Email Address

IP Address

Allows multiple entries for each ban type.

Disclaimer

This plugin is distributed without any warranty, expressed or suggested, yaddi yaddi. The plugin author, Shane, is an avid reader of this website and a good friend of mine but he is too lazy to operate his own wordpress blog. Therefore, I get to take credit and traffic for his new creation!

Installation

Installation is extremely simple, as with all wordpress plugins. Follow these instructions, if you still have issues, post a comment below.

download the plugin.

Extract the compressed bannnage.zip file to your local computer.

Upload bannage.php to your wp-content/plugins/ directory of your website.

Activate Bannage plugin via plugins panel of the administrative interface of wordpress

Changelog

Wildcards (*) have been integrated!

Thanks to Dave Jansen of davejansen.com, wildcards for ip addresses and email addresses have been fully integrated. We are currently testing the new wildcard implementation, if you experience any issues please comment on this thread!

Although the features are pretty standard and basic, more will be added upon suggestions and trials.
