Apparently Redbull does not take kindly to my setting up and operating of RedBullRoundUp.com. I could go on and on as to my initial opinions, but here is the initial letter I received this morning from Redbull’s Attorney’s in Virginia.
I am not sure what I am going to do about it yet, but I will be contacting my attorney as well to see what my legal boundaries are. Bah, we were supporting redbull.. not clowning on it. What tools!

1My friend had the same problem with Wawa. He had a site set up: I think it was thewawaguy.com. The idea was to praise Wawa – he was going to visit all of them and post his receipts. They sent a cease and desist type thing, and he hates them now. Bad PR!
In their defense they are trying to protect their trademark. If they don’t send letters like this, they give license for anyone, including competitors brands, to use their name. Thats the legal theory anyway. It is still bad PR.

2I can see their point of view, but they should have registered the domain of the event that they own / throw. Good luck with the lawyering. I’ll pound a Red Bull in defiance of Red Bull…
… that seems counter productive.

3Maybe they could be confused, but if anything, the site was there to promote the drinking of redbull. Very bad way to handle the situation instead of just saying “could you put a disclaimer just in case people get confused, even though we appreciate you advertising our product.” Some lawyers are so quick to mess things up, instead of writing a nice letter.

4Angus Red Bulls predate the corporate insignia by an order of magnitude. Place a picture of one of them on your page and slam them with impunity. Force them to purchase the domain from you. Post everything that they threaten you with on the site. Make sure to add the bovine hindquarter comparison.

5A trademark is a trademark. I agree that it’s bad PR but they’re within their rights. Perhaps you could turn this into an opportunity by convincing Red Bull why you’re site is good for business? It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

7I’m with Permial Darkling. Blast their name. If they don’t want the free promotion of their product, then they’re idiots.
I do understand the reasons behind it as described by Dave; but come on, all you’re going to do is piss people off.
You could make a fortune off this. By the time they take you to court and spend thousands in attorney and court fees, they could spend those same thousands, less a few, to just purchase the domain from you. Work it in your favor.
Who knows, you may have already settled.
