The question titling this entry is probably pretty board. In fact, it is extremely board for a reason, yet the topic of this post is very clear. I was informed this evening of “Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR)” GLBT Pride March, taking place Saturday, June 10, 2006.
When I arrived at a location long enough to do a little research on the topic, I realized that even Yahoo! a major supporter of homosexual and such doesn’t even have a listing about the event. Upcoming.org seems to be tracking the event calendar, and Yahoo! is just pulling the feed. Does this leave Tulsa left out?
I’ve noticed over time that Tulsa has very few sites devoted to its culture, events and entertainment. It seems that Bobby from Tulsa Topics is about the only reliable source of this type of information; presently. Personally, I’ve found myself creating numeruos niches for Tulsa’s finest subjects, however, time always seems to stand in my way. Tulsa could really use some talented writers to discuss its heritage and local news.
The question of local news being kept up to date via a blog has been asked everywhere and I think it can. I’m debating starting a network of Tulsa’s current bloggers to create a network of finely tuned content to display exactly what this city has going on. We are not small, we are the second largest city in this state! Virtually, we are not even on the map!

1I think that’s a great idea Justin. Tulsa is a great little city with a lot to offer. I wish I weren’t leaving it.

2I agree with you. Tulsa does have a multitude of things to offer but most people rarely see it.
I would love to see a Tulsa blog with local news, upcomming events, etc.. It may be just what we Tulsans need.

3If I were to conjur up some Tulsa site, would you guys be willing to contribute content? I would want it to be a group collaboration project, not a single opinion of the city, but an array.. not like a review site either.
Suggestions?

4What are you thoughts for content for this “Tulsa” site?
Just things you mentioned above; culture, events, entertainment and newsworthy items as seen through our eyes?

5My imagination works in mysterious ways. I have always wanted to start a content rich site but the problem is people are not always open-minded two every angle of each topic. For example, I wouldn’t be able to write about local politics, because I am pretty single sided with our political situations in Tulsa. However, when it comes to entertainment, social events and such I am pretty well rounded. I attend just about every concert that rolls through this city and I am able to give an open opinion on the subject.
I would definately want to get about ten writers together to contribute to the cause, however, designing a site that could withstand fifty updates a week might be a pain in the you know what…
What are your thoughts?

6I would be very willing to contribute to a site like that…I could draw comparisons with other cities I’ve lived and worked in, etc. For example, I think Tulsa has the best highway system I’ve experienced.

8Donna,
That is an excellent idea. I forsee it being simply a blog, with a ton of information available; updated regularly. I expect that with numerous authors, the information will be updated frequently and spread across numerous topics.
Once I get back from my vacation in July, I will start on the whole idea… now just to come up with a name..

9I like the ideas expressed so far.
You could definately use WordPress for the blogging engine, it could easily handle that number of users and posts.

10I appreciate all the enthusiasm towards the pre-project idea, thus far. Really helps my motivation to move forward with the whole idea..

12Since the city itself is very inadequate, I would expect the bloggers to reflect that.
